Reports from La Repubblica indicates that sporting director Igli Tare suggests that Lazio needs a creative midfielder to help balance the team.
The report however revealed that Lazio have contacted Manchester United’s midfielder, Juan Mata, and offered him a two-year contract at the Olimpico, with an option of a further season.
Mata’s deal was worth €4m a season, but the Spaniard was asking for €5m a year to accept a move to Formello.
The 33-year-old, capped 41 times by Spain, has only played seven games in the Premier League this term, but the former Real Madrid youth has experience from stints with Valencia, Chelsea and the Red Devils.
