Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil has turned down a move to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce after they were unable to match his hefty salary, according to reports.
The 31-year-old playmaker has failed to feature for a single minute under Mikel Arteta since the restart and his Emirates nightmare may be brought to an unsavoury end this summer.
Bild have even reported that Ozil’s wife, Amine Gulse, is the driving force behind a potential switch to Turkey.
The 31-year-old has failed to feature under Mikel Arteta since the restart, Ozil has just 12 months remaining on his £350,000-a-week deal, but appears unwilling to lower his wage demands despite being restricted to watching Arsenal from the sidelines.
The same outlet claims that, having rejected the advance from the Super Lig club, Ozil is considering sitting out the rest of his contract in north London.
His former Miss Turkey wife, however, is believed to be keen for him to head to Turkey. She is also an actress and is said to be very well known in the country, making them the ultimate glamour couple there.

And her ambitions may still yet materialise with Istanbul Basaksehir also prepared to formalise their interest in Ozil.
According to 90min, the club have been pondering swooping for the World Cup winner since last summer and may make a move when the transfer window re-opens.
Basaksehir have recently won the top-flight title in Turkey for the first time and also qualified for the Champions League, moving them ahead of Fenerbahce in the chase to sign Ozil.
Arteta has also refused to confirm whether Ozil will feature again in his rebuild at the club – but suggested the superstar ‘has the same chances’ to be selected as his team-mates.
The World Cup winner’s hefty contract will expire in 12 months and he may sit out the rest of it.
Mikel Arteta has revealed he ‘doesn’t know’ if Ozil will feature for Arsenal again in the future.

He said: ‘I don’t know. He’s training with the team, he’s available for selection. We’ll make the decisions on a daily basis.
‘I have to select him, and I have 24 players to do that in the squad. At the moment he’s not being selected. We’ll see what happens for the next game.
‘He has the same chances as everybody else.’
